A marriage license costs $30.
Every elopement costs differently according to what each
couple prioritizes. Some may choose to splurge on doing
an epic experience like a helicopter tour or gondola ride,
while some may stick to just hiking. Some may want to
bring some sandwiches to eat, while some may want to hire
a private chef.

One of the coolest parts about eloping in Colorado is that you CAN marry
yourselves through self-solemnization. This means that you don’t need an
officiant or any witnesses. That also means that your furry friends can put their
paw print on your marriage license and “sign” as your witness. We think that
this is one of the funnest parts about eloping in Colorado. It also means that it’s
even easier to have a “just the two of you” elopement experience.

One thing about visiting and eloping in Colorado is that the weather can be tricky,
unpredictable, and vastly different than most other states in the country. The
mountainous terrain creates inversions that drastically change the temperatures
depending on the area. Elevation also plays a huge role when it comes to the weather!
One of the perks about eloping in Colorado is that there are 300 sunny days a year, so
even if there’s snow on the ground it can still be nice and sunny! Let’s chat about what
eloping in Colorado could look like depending on each season.

Winters in Colorado typically mean lots of
snow, but with a good amount of sunshine.
In the mountains you can expect large
amounts of snow with some mountain passes
being closed. Depending on the exact region,
highs can be in the 20s-30s and lows in the
single digits. This means that layers are
absolutely necessary and breaks to warm up
by the fireplace are welcomed!
Eloping in Colorado in the winter may be an
awesome idea if you love frozen lakes,
snowshoeing or skiing, or the solitude on trails
that are normally swarming with tourists in the
warmer months.

Spring in Colorado doesn’t look like the typical
Spring in other parts of the country, and it’s highly
unpredictable. One day it may be warm without a
cloud in sight and the next there may be multiple
feet of snow on the ground, and then that snow
can be melted within 24 hours- it’s crazy! In some
places in Colorado, May is the snowiest month of
the year.
Temperatures do start to warm up and the
waterfalls may be flowing so it is still an incredible
time to elope in Colorado. Just be prepared for all
weather scenarios!

Summer is by far the most popular time to visit and
elope in Colorado. Some mountains may still have
snow, but most of the state won’t get many more
snowstorms. Instead, you can expect almost daily
rainstorms, often referred to as monsoons. These
are typically short spurts of rain that come and go
quickly, so don’t be too worried about them!
We love summer elopement in Colorado because
the mountains are open for hiking, the wildflowers
come out, and it’s just absolutely gorgeous.

Fall is a short, beautiful season in Colorado.
Temperatures and crowds of tourists start to
decrease a bit and you can find red and
golden groves of trees in the mountains. The
cooler temperatures also open the possibility
of snow, but not typically big snowstorms.
We love fall elopements in Colorado so
much- it’s the perfect combination of
adventure and coziness.

Located less than two hours north of Denver, the Rocky Mountains are full of adventure waiting to happen! When most
people think of eloping in Colorado, they usually think of eloping in Rocky Mountain National Park. The Rocky
Mountains are beyond beautiful, but the national park has become a difficult place to elope due to limited permits and
busy crowds! We suggest eloping at a more off-the-beaten in the mountains to have the perfect mix of breathtaking
views, without the tourists. We can help find one of these spots for your Colorado elopement. Contact us now for an
elopement consult.
Rocky Mountain Elopement Lodging: We suggest staying in Fort Collins, Boulder, or Estes Park for your elopement in the
rocky mountains. These are all fairly large towns with tons of lodging to choose from, and are super close to tons of
different hiking locations. We especially recommend getting a private cabin in the woods to relax and unwind after
your day full of adventures.

Colorado Springs is just 1.5 hours south of Denver and offers a lot of versatility for your elopement experience! There
are beautiful mountains, including the famous Pikes Peak, the red rocks at Garden of the Gods, lakes, and generally a
bit warmer and drier than other parts of the state. The Springs is a perfect place for your elopement if you love hiking,
kayaking, climbing, rafting, horseback riding, and so much more! This is a great location if you’re having a hard time
choosing between red rocks and mountains- it’s the best of both worlds.
Colorado Springs Elopement Lodging: Colorado Springs offers a variety of places for you to stay during your elopement
experience. Our personal favorite thing to do is to stay in one of the little mountain towns just outside of the Springs, to
get away from all of the traffic that the city brings. There are tons of Airbnbs offering cabins of all sizes, as well as more
unique stays like yurts and tiny homes! You also can’t go wrong staying at a cozy lodge!

Home to one of the most photographed peaks in North America, the Maroon Bells, Aspen is a beautiful mountain town
home to year-round adventure! It is almost 4 hours west of Denver so if you’re down for a mini road trip, this could be
an incredible place for your elopement! There is so much to do beyond just hiking, from mountain biking, to skiing, to
rock-climbing, to paragliding, to gondola rides- there is so much to do in this town! Fall is especially amazing due to the
abundance of aspen and birch in the mountains. We love the charm of this town!
Aspen Elopement Lodging: One of the perks about eloping in Aspen is that there are tons of options for lodging ranging
from camping to 5 star lodges. If staying in a lodge is more up your alley, totally do that! We love finding cabins in the
woods that create a great home base that is super cozy after your adventure! You can’t go wrong with pitching a tent or
bringing a camper van to aspen though, especially in the summertime!

The San Juan Mountains are by far one of our favorite places to adventure in Colorado, one of the less visited and totally underrated. These
mountains feel just as incredible as the Rockies, but do require more of a drive to get to them! Our personal favorite mountain towns in the San
Juans are Telluride, Ouray, and Silverton. You can find tons of hiking trails, 4x4 mountain passes (our favorites!!), waterfalls, river-rafting, soaking
in hot springs, and places to rock climb. These towns are awesome to visit year around but our favorite time is Fall- you cannot go wrong with
seeing those golden leaves! If you’re down to adventure and you want a more private location, the San Juans are for you!
San Juan Elopement Lodging: Like we mentioned, we suggest staying in Telluride, Silverton, Ouray, or Durango for your elopement in the San
Juans. These are all small mountain towns with great restaurants and lodging options. If you’re visiting in the summer we highly recommend
camping, but we also suggest renting a cabin in the woods. If you’re looking for a more high-end lodging experience, we highly recommend the
Dunton Hot Springs lodge- especially if you love hot springs as much as we do!

Breckenridge is one of the most well known adventure spots in Colorado, but for good reason. This mountain town is surrounded
by insanely beautiful 13ers and 14ers. We love that after a rad day of exploring that you can find a great brewery to enjoy a local
craft beer or cider. Some of our favorite things to do in Breckenridge is hiking or 4x4ing to high alpine lakes, rock-climbing,
gondola rides, and kayaking in the gorgeous lakes. It’s one of our favorite mountain towns in all of the US, and one of our favorite
places to document and plan elopements!
Breckenridge Elopement Lodging: We recommend staying nearby Breckenridge or in Dillon for your elopement to be close by
some awesome trails. There is some awesome camping in the mountains (even right next to some waterfalls!), as well as tons of
cabins and lodges to stay in near town.
