What is the best
time to visit and
elope in Pacific Northwest?

The two most popular seasons for eloping in the Pacific Northwest are summer and autumn (June-October). It’s no secret that the PNW gets a ton of rain so no matter what the season is, prepare for rain, especially near the water. Summer is an incredible time because there are more sunny days which means the mountains are out, tons of rainbow wildflowers, and the weather is very comfortable! Some mountainous areas may still have snow in early summer so keep that in mind. Autumn is also amazing if you love fall colors, foggy skies, and less crowds. You can absolutely still elope in the PNW in November-May, but there is a bigger chance for more rain- which isn’t always a bad thing. Keep in mind that summer can be the fire season in the PNW and it’s different every single year!

We got married in the Olympic National Park in Washington in July 2017 and it was perfect! It was sunny and 75 degrees and only got a little chilly by the lake at night. There were tons of beautiful wildflowers everywhere and we got to hike around the national parks without much snow! Fast forward 3 years and we were hiking around Mt. Rainier with over 5 feet of snow on the ground! It’s best to prepare for everything when eloping in the Pacific Northwest.

Let's see which state is perfect for your elopement experience

Eloping in Oregon

We think that eloping in Oregon is an amazing idea, especially if you love the mountains and water. Oregon tends to be less busier than it’s neighbor state of Washington, and there are a ton of locations that are hidden gems. Oregon can have the typical Pacific Northwest gloomy weather but does have more sunny days. The coastal towns have so much charm and Portland is awesome for trying new foods and experiencing the funky culture! Oregon is awesome if you love hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing, fishing, and climbing! You can always find locals heading to their local brewery after a day's worth of adventures, which is always a rad idea!!

A Winter Pacific noRTHWEST Elopement

november - february

go back

A Winter elopement in the majority of the PNW means gloomy weather or lots of snow! This entirely depends on the exact region you choose to elope in. If you choose the mountains, you can expect tons of snow, possible road closures, and parts of National Parks being closed. Other regions may not ever see any snow, but instead be very gloomy and rainy. If you don't mind snow or rain, this is an awesome time to explore the PNW since it is considered "off-season"! You may have the entire beach or forest to yourselves. Pack some hot cocoa, blankets, and rain gear, and get ready to adventure!

Winters in Arizona are probably different than the winters that you are used to if you're from out of state! Some parts of the state have highs in the 60s-70s, while other parts are snowy in the 30s! This means that you could have a comfortable desert elopement or be exploring in the snowy mountains! You may be lucky enough to experience a winter storm in the desert too, which is always an amazing sight to see!

Eloping in Arizona in the winter may be an awesome idea if you hiking in the desert, snowshoeing or skiing, or the solitude on trails that are normally swarming with tourists in the warmer months.

A Spring Arizona Elopement

March-May

go back

Spring in Moab is always a dream for warmer weather (highs in the 60s-80s), blooming flowers, and mostly clear days with the occasional Spring shower. Rain in the desert comes and goes quickly, so don’t let it stop you from eloping in the Spring. Weekends start to become busy with tourists, so it’s important to avoid weekends and consider eloping at sunrise if you choose a more popular trail. It’s a gorgeous time to elope in the desert!

Spring in Arizona in an amazing time for adventuring in Arizona. The weather starts to warm up, the flowers and trees start to bloom, and the sun is out most of the time! You may experience a random spring shower, but in general you can expect sunny days with a bit of wind!

This is when there's a big uptick in tourism so be prepared for trails to get busier! Everyone wants to enjoy the beautiful weather!

A Summer Colorado Elopement

June-August

go back

Summer in Moab isn’t necessarily the greatest time of year for a wedding adventure. Summers in the desert include monsoons (daily rain storms) that can produce dangerous flash flooding and lightning and warmer temperatures in the 100s with humidity. Trails tend to be busier, especially during sunrise and sunset. One of the perks is the epic cotton candy colored sunsets that happen almost every night. If you’re okay with some rain and heat, it could make for a fun adventure! If you want to escape the heat, you can choose elope in the nearby La Sal mountains that are just 45 minutes outside of town. There you’ll find temperatures in the 80s and gorgeous mountain views.

Summer is the least popular season for eloping in Arizona due to the extreme heat in the majority of the state. Most of the state has highs ranging from the 100s-115, and it's not very fun to adventure in! In the mountainous parts of the state you can enjoy highs in the 80s! Another important thing to note about Arizona summers are monsoons. These are almost daily rainstorms that include thunder, lightning, dust storms (haboobs)  and possibly even flash floods.

We only suggest a Summer elopement in Arizona if you're planning on being in the mountains!

A Fall Arizona Elopement

September-October

go back

By far one of the most popular seasons for Moab elopements! The weather is perfect (not too hot, not too cold) with highs in the 60s-80s. September and October are by far the busiest months in this tiny town so I always recommend couples to stay away from eloping on the weekends. You can fall Fall leaves along the river, as well as in the La Sal mountains. In general, I recommend November as the perfect month to elope for perfect weather and less crowds!

Fall is a short, beautiful season in Colorado. Temperatures and crowds of tourists start to decrease a bit and you can find red and golden groves of trees in the mountains. The cooler temperatures also open the possibility of snow, but not typically big snowstorms.

We love fall elopements in Colorado so much- it’s the perfect combination of adventure and coziness.

Eloping in CRATER LAKE national park

Crater Lake National Park is Oregon’s only national park! It’s located 6 hours south of Portland, and is one of the less well known national parks in the Pacific Northwest. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States and one of the most pristine on earth. The weather is known for being very unpredictable, but the best time to visit this lake is June-October when all of the roads are open. We recommend exploring one of the less hiked trails or having a sunrise ceremony.

Crater Lake Elopement Lodging: We suggest staying in Klamath Falls, Prospect, or Medford for your elopement. If you want to camp there are two campgrounds in the park. One of the best options is staying at the lodge that overlooks the lake- how gorgeous!!

Eloping in the columbia river gorge

The Columbia River Gorge is one of the coolest spots in all of the Pacific Northwest. The Columbia River runs along the state lines of Oregon and Washington. You can find dozens of waterfalls, streams, trails, dramatic cliffs, and so much more. One of the highlights of the Gorge is the famous Multnomah Falls. Locals suggest trying out the mountain biking trails or water sports like windsurfing and paddle boarding. You can’t go wrong with trying the local breweries or farm fresh restaurants in the area.

Columbia River Gorge Elopement Lodging: There are tons of lodging accommodations to choose from for your elopement. We suggest staying in White Salmon or Hood River for the ultimate cabin experience, perks if there are river views! Portland is only about one hour away from the Gorge so you can always stay there too! You can’t go wrong with camping near the river or in the dense forests.

Eloping in mt. hood national forest

Mt. Hood is Oregon’s tallest mountain with a vast forest filled with waterfalls surrounding it. Mt. Hood is most known for having the nation’s longest ski season- yup, there can even be snow on the mountain for your summer elopement! There’s something awe-inspiring about this dormant volcano! With over 1000 miles of hiking, we can promise that you’ll find the perfect trail to capture your heart for your elopement. The best time to elope here is May-September if you want views of the mountain.

Mt. Hood Elopement Lodging: One of the most iconic places you can stay for your Mt. Hood elopement is the historic Timberline Lodge that's on one of the peaks of the mountain. There are dozens of Inns and cabins within one hour of the mountain. Stay in a cute tiny house or cottage by the river to experience the coziness of the wilderness and disconnect.

This epic state park that is 3 hours southeast of Portland is a rock climber and outdoor enthusiast’s paradise! There are several thousand climbs in this little piece of high desert, with a beautiful river flowing through. There’s hiking, horseback riding, slacklining, mountain biking, and more! Smith Rock has become a popular spot over the years due to its uniqueness so we recommend eloping in the slower season and on a weekday. We love exploring Smith Rock September-May.

Smith Rock Elopement Lodging: We suggest staying in Bend for your Smith Rock elopement, or on one of the vacation rentals right near the park. Bend is a charming mountain town with great places to eat and so many gorgeous trails to explore. There is some great camping in the wilderness too!

Eloping on the oregon coast

The Oregon Coast is one of the best places for your Pacific Northwest elopement! Some of the most popular beaches are Cannon Beach, Cape Kiwanda, and Lincoln City, but there are so many other hidden gems that would be perfect for your intimate elopement. One thing to note about the coast is that the weather is truly unpredictable, no matter the time of year. You never know if you’re going to get moody fog or bright golden sunsets. We believe that the Oregon coast is the best place for seaside elopements because of the dramatic cliffs. You can end your day with a campfire on the beach with your pups and your favorite brew- what’s better than that?

Oregon Coast Elopement Lodging: We recommend staying in one of the seaside towns or camping on the beach for an unforgettable elopement experience. We typically recommend more secret coastal spots for elopements to keep things intimate so once we find the perfect beach, check out their local inns and cottages!

Eloping in mt. rainier national park

Mt. Rainier is one of the most iconic spots in Washington, and rightfully so! This huge mountain is a dormant volcano that can be seen from hundreds of miles away on a clear day. This mountain gets tons of snow but once the snow is melted you can experience the insanely beautiful wildflower season. We recommend eloping in Mount Rainier during Summer or Autumn to have a better chance of seeing the mountain on a clear day. One of the best parts about Mt. Rainier is that there is a trail for everyone and all abilities.

Mount Rainier Elopement Lodging: We suggest staying in either Ashford or Packwood for your elopement experience. Both of these towns are just outside the national park and close to the trails. We typically choose to stick around Ashford since there are more vacation rentals and cafes that are perfect to grab a coffee at before a hike! There are some great cabin (with hot tubs!!) rentals and unique A-frames nearby the park. We especially love camping inside the park and boondocking in a camper van outside of parks limits so we can have our dogs join us!

Eloping in olympic national park

Olympic National Park holds a special place in our hearts because it’s where we got married in July 2017! We got married right on Lake Crescent, and it was absolutely magical! Our favorite part about Olympic is the versatility and size of the park; from the huge mountains of Hurricane Ridge, to the beautiful Lake Crescent, to the huge, moss covered Hoh Rainforest, to the moody beaches like Ruby Beach. We promise that you’ll fall in love with this park just like we have. Some fun things to do include hiking, fishing, boating, kayaking (our personal favorite!!), and exploring tide pools!

Olympic National Park Elopement Lodging: We recommend staying in Port Angeles or Forks for your Olympic National Park elopement. There are lots of lodges and campgrounds all around Lake Crescent. We got married at Lake Crescent Naturebridge, which is a campground where your friends and family can stay too! You can’t go wrong getting a cozy cabin in the woods or a cottage on the coast.

The North Cascades in Washington is one of the most underrated spots in the whole state, but one of the most breathtaking spots to adventure! One of the highlights of the park is the famous teal blue lakes- believe it or not, they really are that color! We recommend eloping here July-September due to roads frequently closing due to snowpack. Trust us and put this place on your bucket list! Better yet, elope in these gorgeous mountains!

North Cascades Elopement Lodging: If you’re planning on only visiting within the National Park, we suggest staying in Marblemount or at one of the lodges right on the lake in the Park. We also highly recommend adventuring outside of the park around Mt. Baker, especially if you love camping!

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land isnMoab is by far one of our favorite locations for a Moab elopement! This land tends to be less busy than the neighboring national parks, but it isn’t lacking in beauty! You can find epic sandstone arches, beautiful canyon views, and so much more. There are dozens upon dozens of incredible places to elope on the BLM land, ranging from very accessible and easy to get to, to locations requiring many miles of off-roading. We love working with our couples to find the perfect spot for their day! It’s important that you receive a special use permit through the Moab BLM office for your Moab elopement!

Snoqualmie Pass is about an hour drive from Seattle and it is an area filled with gorgeous lakes, waterfalls, and epic mountain views. One of the perks of eloping in Snoqualmie Pass is that many of the trails are short and accessible! A couple of things to consider about the pass are road conditions and busyness! During the winter and spring, driving conditions may be precarious and possibly dangerous, with road closures! Summer and Fall are a popular time to visit and with how close these beautiful spots are to the city, they can get busy on weekends!
Snoqualmie Pass Elopement Lodging: We suggest staying in one of the towns east of Seattle such as Snoqualmie, North Bend, or Issaquah. There are so many cute cabins to choose from in the area that you can't go wrong with!

This is one of the lesser known areas nearby Moab, and one of the most surprising for first time visitors. These beautiful mountains are just 45 minutes away from the heart of Moab. You can find snow almost year around and they are incredible for skiing, mountaineering, or for just cooling down in the warm summer months. We think eloping in the La Sal mountains is an incredible idea for all of you who equally love the red rock desert and high alpine mountains!

Once you cross over the Cascade Mountains over into Eastern Washington, you may not recognize that you're in the same state! While there are still mountains and rivers, they aren't quite as green as the western half of the state. Some of our favorite areas to explore in eastern Washington include Leavenworth, Wenatchee, and Chelen. The mountains, rivers, and lakes are absolutely breathtaking! One perk of eloping here is that is it much less popular than the western part of the state. The best time to visit these spots are late spring and fall! Summertime can be fire season and the winters can be intense in the mountains, including some road closures! Make sure to check out these spots if you're looking for an awesome, off-the-beaten-path location for your elopement in Washington!

Other incredible ways to experience the Kenai Fjords are by helicopter tours, dog sledding, and cruises. The cruises allow for you to see glaciers up close, as well as wildlife such as whales, moose, and more! WILD AND ALIVE.

We’ll never forget how it felt when we snuck away from our big wedding and disappeared
into the forest for a few stolen moments together in nature. It was like we were the only
two people on earth, that’s how cinematically beautiful and heart-crushingly intimate it
was.

It shook us up so much, we now help other spirited couples craft a whole elopement
adventure around that feeling of raw intimacy. Along for the wild ride with you, we’ll
capture candid photographs and film vignettes of all the authentic, tender, hilarious,
breathtaking, thrilling, and stripped-back moments that make your day YOUR day.

It’s just you and the love of your life having a helluva good time, against the backdrop of
one of the most ruggedly gorgeous locations in the Western United States. Ready to hatch a
wild plan? We’re game!
