Breckenridge, Colorado Elopement in the Mountains

Debra & Shamarrae’s Breckenridge Elopement Story

When planning their elopement adventure, Debra and Shamarrae knew they wanted their day to be intimate, just the two of them, and with the feeling of being amongst the mountains. Breckenridge, Colorado automatically struck me to be their perfect elopement location because it easily ticks all of those boxes. Unlike some other locations in Colorado, Breckenridge and the surrounding mountain towns offer locations that aren’t nearly as popular but still awe-inspiring! This high alpine lake that sits in the middle of many 13er’s and 14er’s is one of my all time favorite locations- can you see why!? You can’t beat the views and you don’t have to compromise your privacy at all. It’s a win win!

One thing about eloping in Colorado, or the mountains in general, is that the weather can be highly unpredictable. We experienced that first hand at this late summer elopement! Rain was in and out of the forecast all day and with my experience in Colorado, I knew we had a good chance of the rain lasting a bit and tapering off! Luckily we made it through their adventure around the hike and their vow exchange before the rain decided to begin. We had planned for a beautiful candlelit picnic by the lake but decided it was best to go back to the cabin to warm up and enjoy dinner there. This backup plan turned out to be just as beautiful! Eloping means you are at the will of Mother Nature, but sometimes that will look different than your original plans. At the end of the day, I encourage you to embrace it all and dance in the rain!

Tips for Your Breckenridge Elopement

How to Get Married in Breckenridge, Colorado

One of the coolest things about eloping in Colorado is this thing called Self-Solemnization. This means you do not need an officiant to marry you! This is an awesome option if you want a completely intimate elopement experience. If that’s not your thing, that’s totally okay too! You can still use an officiant if you’d like!

To get a marriage license for your Breckenridge elopement you need to go to the Summit County Clerk and Recorder office. No appointments are necessary and there isn’t a waiting period after you receive your license. Licenses are $30 and the typical time for the whole process is around 20 minutes!

Best Time of Year to Elope in Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge is a stunning place to visit year around depending on what kind of weather and activities that you love to do. Our favorite times of year to elope in Breckenridge are summer and autumn!

A Summer Elopement in Breckenridge (June-August): Summer in Breck is absolutely gorgeous! Highs in the 60s to 70s, lows in the 50s. You can expect short rain storms, especially up in the mountains, but they don’t usually last all day long. The sunny skies and wildflowers are sure to make you fall in love!!

A Spring Elopement in Breckenridge (March-May): Spring in Colorado is highly unpredictable and very different than other parts of the country and world! The mountains will get snow through May so it’s important to be prepared for any sort of weather. Highs can be anywhere between the 30s and 50s and lows in the 20s-30s!

An Autumn Elopement in Breckenridge (September & October): If you’ve always dreamed of having golden leaves on your elopement day, Breckenridge is the place to explore! Highs are in the 50s and lows in the 30s so be sure to bring layers and don’t be surprised if we get random snow! September is the safest bet to avoid road closures, especially up in the mountains!

A Winter Elopement in Breckenridge (November-February): If you love snow, then Breck in the winter would be your wonderland! They get around 300 inches of snow annually, with gorgeous blue skies lots of the days! Highs are typically in the 30s and lows in the teens or 20s!
