Adventurous Bell Rock Wedding

I’ve been dying to share this gorgeous adventurous wedding at Bell Rock since the day I captured it! This day with Lindsay, Austin, and all of their loved ones was absolutely amazing. These two and their families came all the way from Ohio to come celebrate their marriage in one of their favorite places- Sedona! Sedona has always been a special place to Lindsay and Austin so they could only imagine getting married here. They had gotten engaged at Cathedral Rock and wanted to have their elopement there. Unfortunately, the trail was closed for reconstruction on their wedding day so we had to create a new plan. Luckily, you can’t go wrong with any trail in Sedona and their “backup” plan ended up being an incredible adventure that we’ll never forget!

Getting Ready

To start off their full day wedding adventure I met these two at the Airbnb they were sharing with all of their loved ones. The boys were all drinking beers and playing pool while the ladies sipped their mimosas and did their hair and makeup. It was laid back, stress-free, and in my opinion the perfect way to start off a wedding day! Everyone in the house made me feel so welcomed which I always appreciate! It always makes documenting the day THAT much better!

Lindsay had her hair and makeup done by the incredible Chris Bullock. He is actually the first makeup artist I ever worked with as an elopement photographer here in Sedona so it’s always such a joy to be around him! He always has the whole room smiling and has the best energy. I couldn’t believe how gorgeous of a bouquet Lindsay had made by Mountain High Flowers! It was every boho bride’s dream.

The Ceremony at Bell Rock

After Lindsay and Austin had a first look in the backyard we all headed off to the ceremony at Bell Rock. The Bell Rock parking lot is small and crowded so I always suggest using a shuttle service to drop everyone off. This ensures that the schedule for the day doesn’t get too thrown off waiting for parking spots. Bell Rock is a huge park with lots of trails so depending on the ability of the guests I suggest a trail accordingly. The couple wanted to have Bell Rock be the backdrop for their ceremony so that’s what we did! It is important to consider that this is a public park so you won’t have complete privacy. It’s also important to not take away from the experience of other hikers. Make sure your ceremony is short and sweet, not in the middle of the trail or in a closed off area, and do not have any set up of any kind. Yep, that includes arches and flowers! Embrace the naturally beautiful surroundings of Sedona!

One of my favorite parts of Lindsay and Austin’s ceremony at Bell Rock was that Austin’s brother officiated it! This is always a great way to involve a loved one or family on your wedding day. It’s easy to get ordained through the Universal Life Church.

Adventure Session

Once their ceremony concluded we took a handful of photos with all of their loved ones. Just because you elope doesn’t mean you can’t get some family photos! After all of those photos it was time for the family to head back to the Airbnb to prepare for the reception while we went off on a sunset adventure.

Since Lindsay and Austin’s favorite hike was closed we decided to do other trails close by with the mountain in the background. It was amazing to go on these more off-the-beaten-path trails so Lindsay and Austin could have some privacy! We saw the most beautiful sunset on the red rocks as we adventured. I always love stepping back and letting my couples truly just enjoy the sun set together! We stuck around as the sun dipped below the horizon and then headed back to their Airbnb to enjoy pizza, beer, and cake!

I want you as our wedding photographer!

Final Thoughts

Gosh, what an amazing day this was!! I feel so lucky to have been able to meet these two and their loved ones and document their day. It was a prime example that back up plans can still turn out absolutely beautiful! Bell Rock is one of my all time favorite locations (and one of my most popular!) so if you visit this location make sure you grab a parking permit and respectfully have your wedding in a way that does not disturb the land or the other hikers. Remember that set ups of any kind are not allowed (arches, tables, flowers, etc).
